Mechanic Position
At Brixton Cycles we have a position available for a new mechanic. Having been in Brixton since the early 80’s, we pride ourselves on being part of the local community. We are renowned for our workshop, expertly servicing bikes of all ages and disciplines and as London’s biggest Surly dealer, we are the go-to for custom touring bikes. As an inclusive workplace with an unusual structure, finding the right person is key for us.
Skills and Experience
- At least 2 years workshop experience in a busy workshop or Cytech 2 qualified (or equivalent)
- Cytech qualifications are a bonus but experience and being nice is essential
- Comprehensive understanding of bicycle mechanics
- Ability to work as part of a team in a busy dynamic environment
- Confident with basic IT skills and POS systems
- Good people skills and a genuine interest in working with the public in a retail sector is essential
- A good knowledge of cycling products across a variety of categories is desirable
- Be able to work in a close knit team
- Thrive in a busy working environment
- Self-motivated but willing to take instruction when given
- Show initiative and attention to detail
- Attentive to customer needs
Duties include but are not limited to
- Repair and service bikes to the highest of standards
- Maintain our excellent workshop standards
- Assembly and inspection of complete box and custom bikes
- Ensuring every customer that enters our shop feels valued
- Liaising with customers regarding repairs and sales in person, over the phone and via email
- Advising customers on technical product purchases such as parts and accessories
- Advise and recommend products and services to suit customer need and budget
- Diagnosing bikes coming in for repair and service
- Handling special orders and warranty returns
- Communicating efficiently and effectively with other team members
- Maintaining a high level of brand knowledge in order to be confident with the products we sell
- Accurately quoting for repairs on bicycles, ranging from affordable hybrids to high end touring bikes
- A flexible approach to the position is required
- Serving customers on the shop floor when it’s busy and when the front of house team need help
Contract is for 36 hours over four days.
Starting hourly wage is £13.15, the current London Living wage
Must be able to work some Saturdays.
