Brixton Builds: Brother Kepler (GRX 1x)

Custom builds have been coming thick and fast here at Brixton Cycles – let’s take a closer look at a rather stunning Brother Cycles Kepler that we recently built up.

Brother Cycles are a relatively new addition to our range, but having been around since 2010, they’re no strangers to crafting some of the classiest frames in the business. A family-run endeavor started in heart of London, Brother HQ is now based in the Kent countryside, home to their studio, workshop and warehouse. And yes, the founders are actually brothers! Frameset: Brother Cycles Kepler

Built for every kind of adventure, the Kepler embodies adaptability like no other. Whether you're tackling city commutes, braving winter rides, embarking on long tours, or exploring your local trails, this frameset is the perfect choice.

Crafted from double-butted 4130 chromoly steel, it strikes that sweet spot between comfort and ruggedness, with an added ED coating safeguarding against corrosion. Designed to roll with either 700c or 650b wheels with clearance to handle 700c x 45 or 650b x 48 tyres, there’s very little this bike can’t tackle. Plus, it’s a champ when it comes to accessorising – ready to accommodate front and rear racks, mudguards, and sporting three bottle mount positions for those longer journeys and setting you up for those off-the-grid escapades. And let’s face it, it looks damn good too!

Groupset: Shimano GRX 600 1x

Smooth, reliable and versatile, the GRX 600 1x groupset was a no brainer for this custom build. The beauty of the 1x lies in its simplicity – no front derailleur means less hassle and more focus on the ride. With precise, reliable shifting and a wide-ranging 11-40t cassette, this groupset makes steep climbs a breeze without sacrificing speed on the flat. It’s a match made in heaven, offering the ideal balance of efficiency and performance, perfectly complementing the Kepler's adaptability for any adventure.

Wheels & Tyres: Halo Wheelset and Panaracer Gravelking SK+

With reliability and durability in mind, the Halo wheelset was the perfect choice for this build. Earning their stripes for being bombproof, sturdy with ample spokes, these wheels offer exceptional value and performance for an adventure-centric build. As for the Panaracer Gravelking SK+ tyres, the specced 700x38mm size strikes the perfect balance, offering substantial grip and tread for off-road adventures without compromising on speed or efficiency on tarmac. In fact, when it comes to broken UK winter roads, they’re pretty much the perfect choice, soaking up the bumps and providing the traction needed to conquer any surface with confidence.

Finishing Kit: Genetic Handlebar & Stem, Hope Headset, Brooks Cambium Saddle

Lightweight yet robust, the selection of the Genetic handlebar and stem ticks the practicality and durability box for this build. These components are engineered to last, while offering excellent value for money. Why choose between form and function when you can have both? Adding a pop of color to the ensemble is the orange Hope headset, a worthwhile upgrade that’ll be capable of withstanding even the most gruelling of winters. Topping things off is the Brooks Cambium saddle – when it comes to comfort and style, it’s hard to beat a Brooks, and it looks the business on this bike!
